Our beloved Pope Francis proclaims, "Evangelization is the mission of the Church, not just of a few, but my, your, our mission." This quote echoes the many documents of the Church over the course of the past two millennium that have shouted, again and again, that "the Church exists in order to evangelize". At St. Mary's Catholic Campus Ministry, we take this mission seriously, which is why we have been so very busy over the course of the past month! Every year, starting the week before classes begin, we pick up the pace to reach SFA students for Christ. We give our student leaders a chance for prayer and reflection at our Leadership Retreat, and then we train them to reach their classmates with the Gospel. The next few weeks tend to be a bit of a blur as we go out on campus and provide many different types of programs at St. Mary's, all geared at sharing the Gospel and helping our students to come into a vibrant Christian community. This year was certainly no different! Immediately following our Leadership retreat, we welcomed new students to campus (and older students back!) by serving them and helping carry their belongings into their residence halls. We held a ministry fair that highlighted the various ways students can get plugged in at SFA. We tabled on campus, had game nights, held a BBQ, took our very own Bishop Strickland out on campus, held our 50th Awakening Retreat, and continued to work with the students who have already come through our door in past years. With all of these activities and events we had one goal in mind: to "find new ways to spread the word of God to every corner of the world" (Pope Francis).
As our time of 'Fall Outreach' comes to a close, we recognize that the work of Evangelization has certainly not finished! Though we slow down a little, spending more time in prayer and formation with our students, we will continue to do everything we can to reach our campus. Our Missionaries (and many students!) are beginning their weekly Bible Studies, and we have successfully launched another year of the Circle. We have several more dates set to go out on campus, letting students know who and where we are, and our Core Team of student leaders have a lot of great things planned for the semester. Please continue to pray for all of us as we strive to accept the mission the Lord has given us.
