As a college student there are many opportunities available to me. The most blessed opportunity I received while on campus was to go on a mission trip to Ecuador with St. Mary’s. The trip was more than going to a foreign country, meeting people and seeing how different it is than the States; the experience of going to such a land different than our own seeing God’s work being done was priceless. I enjoyed every moment in the Amazon hiking up the mud to find a small community and share the gospel to those who know little about Christ. The moments where the community would band together with us to help move sand across a river to make mortar for a church really inspired me in my faith. Not only faith in the human ability to grow together across any national boundary, but to grow in faith of Christ together as well. This is why I wish to help bring the Word to those in another country once again this year with St. Mary’s. I am currently fundraising to go to Mexico and share with the people of General Cepeda how the Lord has impacted me. I hope to also hear about how the Holy Spirit has worked in their lives as well.
I never would have imagined that I would be going on mission trips while at college. God surprised me in 2013 by putting the desire in me to join full time missionaries in Ecuador during my Spring Break, which in most college student’s eyes is the time to relax and have fun in the sun. I did in fact get to partake in the fun, but in a variety of different ways that worshiped and glorified God. My experience in the Amazon is one that will never be forgotten because of how it impacted my life afterwards. When I returned to the States, I was in shock to how I had become so absorbed into the material world, where not only in Ecuador; many are satisfied and grateful for the small treasures God grants them. I yearned to be like them. I craved the same spirit of gratitude that many people contained while I was there with them. My faith blossomed in a way it has never grown before, and I wish for it to keep flourishing in that way while I prepare for this upcoming Spring Break mission trip to General Cepeda, Mexico. My greatest life desire is to show others how wonderful the Lord is, and how He has worked through me. While most may say that you will touch someone’s life and impact them forever on trips like these, I choose to view it the other way around. The people of Ecuador forever changed my life and made me realize once more that God is the reason for their joy, and He’s all I need.
